Our bedtime routine is one or two picture books, a poem from a poetry book, then we put Indi in her crib and read her chapter book till she says "night night."
Why this exists
Reading to Indigo is one of the best parts of my day. There's something about watching her face when a story clicks. A laugh, a gasp, pointing at a picture and saying a word she's never said before. I wanted somewhere to keep track of that joy.
This list fuels my own discovery too. There are so many incredible picture books out there and I'm always hunting for the next great one. If you have a recommendation, open an issue or send me an email. I love hearing what other people are reading to their kids.
Building this site is its own kind of fun. When I was a kid in the 90s, my dad and I used to build websites together. Making this brings me right back to that feeling. A thing on the internet about something I care about. Not posting on social media, posting to my own website. Just having fun sharing.
The analytics are a bonus. Turns out if you put structured data on everything, you start learning things about your own taste you didn't expect. Which countries do our favorite books come from? Do award-winners actually predict what we'll love? It's been a fun way to understand what Indi and I are drawn to.
